Introducing Cardston’s first set of Christmas Festivals!

This year, we felt that we were in need more than ever to pull together as a community. We hope that these festivals provide an opportunity for you to get involved and have some fun at the same time!

Christmas is such an easy time for community spirit and we really encourage everyone out there to participate in anyway that you possibly can. Because the Christmas in Cardston committee is a new group, we have zero funding; meaning everything this year is totally reliant on donation. We have been working along side the Town of Cardston and it looks like there are a few places will get some help, but it wont be enough. We really need everyone, especially businesses and home owners to take part.

What are we trying to do? The Festival of Lights is geared around Lighting up the town! We want ‘going to see Cardston’s lights’  to be on the “to do list” this December for all of Southern Alberta.  We want to show off what an amazing community this is and why it’s great to be here. The Town of Cardston will be hosting their lights competition again this year for one of three cash prizes, so don’t forget to get that house lit up! The Festival of Trees is for residents, groups, organizations, classes, businesses, families, you name it! No one is excluded. In fact, we would love to see some outside communities get involved and donate a tree! This is a great time to not only dress up a tree for our auction but to advertise what your all about.

One family that is donating a tree decided to decorate it with ornaments that have acts of service written on the back. They are encouraging everyone to fill them in on acts of service being done so they can keep adding ornaments to their tree. What a great idea to showcase service, not just in a family setting but in the entire community! Use your creativity to come up with ways to advertise your business, your group, your class or your families motto!

Once these trees are decorated they will go on display at the Remington Alberta Carriage Museum from November 24th-December 1st, with the auction being held on the evening of December 1st. All the proceeds will be going towards the Christmas in Cardston Committee for future Festivals of Lights. After we become more established we dream of being able to donate to really great community causes that Cardston specifically benefits from. And don’t forget the competition. Once you enter a tree you are automatically entered into to win one of our amazing prizes..soon to be announced. Tree registration deadline is November 14th. To register a tree, click here . Now that your on board and you’ve decorated, you’ve donated…what next? Mark your calendars!! On December 1st we are planning our Lighting Ceremony at the Remington Museum where we will have Santa there to flip the switch! We are in the process of finalizing the evening but we have some great entertainment and activities planned including a roaring bonfire and family dance, a children’s gingerbread house display, wagon rides, carolers, some great food and of course the auction. All in all it sounds like it’s going to be an event (and month) you won’t want to miss!
